Pliskova Plan To Defeat Kerber

Karolina Pliskova isn't sure how she'll handle the nerves of her first Grand Slam final.

The 24-year-old Czech is sure she can handle Angelique Kerber.

US Open: Women's Final Preview

That's because Pliskova pounded out a 6-3, 6-1, victory over the second-ranked German in last month's Cincinnati final.

Former No. 1 Lindsay Davenport says Pliskova has the power to call the shots against Kerber if she's landing her big serve down the middle on the ad side to stretch the 5'8" Kerber.

"We were looking at some of the numbers from Cincinnati, and Pliskova beating Kerber, she was really using her T-serve on the ad side, and Kerber doesn't have tremendous reach," Davenport said. "Also, if you hit that serve well and it swings away and she barely gets it, she's in the middle. It's a great play. Pliskova served something like 90 percent there in Cincy.

"She was obviously hitting her targets and it was setting her up for an easy shot. Pliskova has the game to hit her off the court, but you have to be able to make six or seven off those, not just one, two, or three like you can against most players."
