NEW YORK—Practice makes perfect—unless you're Petra Kvitova in which case less practice makes perfect sense.
Drained by fighting New York City traffic in the past, the 14th-seeded Kvitova has taken the road less traveled to the US Open fourth round.

The two-time Wimbledon champion dismissed 22nd-seeded Elina Svitolina, 6-3, 6-4, today. Kvitova has not dropped a set reaching the round of 16 for the second year in a row.
Kvitova credited her decision to skip practicing on-site as a key to her second-week run.
"In the day off, I'm not going on site," Kvitova said. "So I'm kind of out of the traffic. There's many people up here and everything. I'm kind of saving the energy and everything, which I think is helping to my person as well and mentally too."
Kvitova, who grew up practicing only about 90 minutes a day while some junior rivals were practicing four hours a day, says less practice time translates to more energy on court.
"It's funny. I think that not many people can imagine or do that," Kvitova said. "It was funny. We were joking today that we were going to the stie for the fourth time and I played three matches. I went here on Sunday, Monday, Wednesday and Friday, which is really funny, I feel.
"And last year I did the same. I played five matches and spent six days here. I think not many people can do that. I'm okay. I'm not a person who has to practice every day."
Kvitova will play either second-seeded Angelique Kerber or CiCi Bellis for a quarterfinal spot.
