Tomas Berdych will make his return to the ATP Tour this week in St. Petersburg, where the Czech is the No. 3 seed at the St. Petersburg Open. That’s good news for the 31-year-old world No. 9, who had to skip this year’s U.S. Open with appendicitis. Berdych underwent treatment in late August and was green-lighted by his doctor in early September.
Berdych will face either Evgeny Donskoy or Andrey Kuznetsov in the second round at St. Petersburg.

The Czech, who recently started working with Goran Ivanisevic, is currently ranked ninth in the ATP’s race to London, and is 670 points behind No. 8 Rafael Nadal.
