Fabio Fognini sure knows how to finish with a flourish.

Watch the theatrical Italian stroke a superb running forehand winner down the line to seal the opening set of his 7-6 (8), 6-2, 6-2 victory over teenager Andrey Rublev in Italy's Davis Cup World Group Playoff against host Russia.

Fognini fought off three set points in the opener before his eye-popping forehand clinched the tie break. Watch Fognini make magic at about the 4:03 mark of the video above.

"It was a really good point, an amazing passing shot and helped me to win the first set," Fognini told Davis Cup.com. "But generally I was feeling really comfortable on court and I was feeling really well.”

Fognini, who became the first man in history to rally from two sets down to defeat Rafael Nadal in a Grand Slam match at the US Open earlier this month, evened the Italy-Russia tie, 1-1.

Teymuraz Gabashvili opened the tie with a 7-6 (2), 6-1, 6-3 victory over Simone Bolelli.

In Saturday's doubles, Paolo Lorenzi and Andreas Seppi are scheduled to play Russia's Evgeny Donskoy and Konstantin Kravchuk though both captains could make line-up changes. Bolelli and Fognini partnered to win the Australian Open doubles title earlier this season.
