Vika's Spectacular Recovery Shot

Things didn’t go Victoria Azarenka’s way during her US Open semifinal with Ekaterina Makarova on Wednesday afternoon in New York, but on this crazy point, Azarenka was cooler than the other side of the pillow when it came to reacting to the strange let cord bounce the Makarova’s desperation overhead took.

Not only does Azarenka do a great job to recognize her dire situation as soon as the ball lands on the net cord, she also moves deftly to avoid being hit by the ball, then circles it and bends into position to make an incredibly poised volley on the ball (she got some help when Makarova missed the forehand, but really, didn't she deserve it?).

Casual fans, do not try this at home. You pretty much need to spend about six hours a day on the court for fifteen consecutive years to be able to make a play like that, with 20,000 fans and global TV audience watching, no less.

The joy was short-lived for Azarenka however, as she ended up being broken in that game, which caused the feisty Belarusian to smash her racquet in anger. She would pick up the pieces of the racquet, but her game would never recover as Makarova reeled off the last four games to clinch the win.
