After nearly three months of treatment for Hodgkin's lymphoma, 18-year-old American Victoria Duval has announced she's cancer free.
Duval's diagnosis came after a biopsy was taken in England prior to Wimbledon, and she learned of it during the qualifying tournament. Duval decided to continue her tournament, and eventually qualified for the main draw and reached the second round. A further test in the United States confirmed the results, and she started treatment shortly after.
She became the third tennis player in recent seasons to be diagnosed with the disease, following Alisa Kleybanova and Ross Hutchins.
The teenager with the sunny disposition maintained an upbeat attitude during her treatment, regularly updating her social media pages during its course. After months of chemotherapy treatment, the news that Duval was in remission broke on social media Saturday before Duval herself took to her Instagram account to confirm the news.
"I AM CANCER FREE!, Duval wrote. "So grateful to everyone for the love and support, and counting on your prayers as I keep progressing on the journey to recovery."
While there is no timetable for Duval's return, Ben Crandell from IMG said in August that she'd be on target to return to training some time in the coming months.
