Late Wednesday night, Andy Roddick came away with a win against fellow American Michael Russell. In a less than inspiring display, Roddick managed a 6-2, 6-4, 4-6, 7-5 victory. Asked to describe his performance, he replied “Uh, it was okay.”
During his post-match interview with Chris Fowler, A-Rod got a little feisty.
As Fowler conducts the interview, he unintentionally opens the floodgates for a Roddick rant. “I’m convinced being a tennis analyst is the easiest job in the world,” Roddick says, “because whatever the person does, if it works you just say that’s what’s good and if it doesn’t work you guys just go he should’ve done the other thing. So, you know I’m pretty convinced I could be a tennis analyst when I’m done.”
Fowler asks semi-jokingly if that’s in his future—because, really, what else can he say?
And Roddick continues his mini-tirade: “It just doesn’t take much thought. If I’m winning you guys are like ‘He’s reinvented himself’ and if I’m playing like crap then it’s you know, ‘He’s horrible and needs to hit the ball.’ Everyone’s an expert but I’m better than most of them.”
Cue awkward chuckle from Fowler. Roddick shrugs his shoulders and says, “Hey, you guys can take it too, you know.” …And cut.
