There will be no Jannik Sinner vs Carlos Alcaraz rematch in Paris this year. That’s because Sinner has been forced to pull out of the draw due to illness.
The No.1 ranked Italian announced the news on Tuesday.
I am “very disappointed to tell you I’m not able to play this tournament” Sinner said in a video shared on X by the event organizers. “I came here very early to prepare and felt sick. I’m having a virus at the moment … Body-wise I’m not ready to compete, I’m very very sorry for that.”
The Italian is 65-6 with seven titles on the year thus far. He has won his first two major titles in 2024, at the Australian Open and the US Open. He will next compete at the ATP Finals in Turin.
"Now for sure the most important part is to recover and getting back physically 100 percent," Sinner said.
"Maybe the next three, four days, I feel better and then I can start again to practice, and of course the main goal is going to be Turin. But, you know, now at the moment, much more important to see how I feel in the next days, and then hopefully I'm going to be ready for Turin."
He has ben placed by French lucky loser Arthur Cazaux in the draw.
