October has been a brilliant month for Jannik Sinner and Italian tennis.
The 22-year-old started this month by rising a career-high ranking of No.4 in the ATP rankings, matching the best ranking by an Italian man in history. Sinner, who equalled Adriano Panatta’s ranking from August of 1976, became the highest-ranked Italian Man in 47 years, but he wasn’t done.
Over the weekend in Vienna, where Sinner claimed his tenth career title by defeating Daniil Medvedev in the final, Sinner clicked two more milestones making it a trifecta for the talented carrot top.
First, he passed Corrado Barazzutti to become the Italian with the most wins in a single season. Barazzutti won 54 matches in 1978 and since then the record has stood among Italian men. Sinner, who finished the week with a 56-14 record, now owns that impressive record.
But wait, there’s more!
Sinner is one of three Italian men to ever win more than 50 matches in a single season, and he could soon be the first to hit the 60-win mark.
By winning his tenth ATP title on Sunday, Sinner also moves into a tie for the most titles won by an Italian man in Open Era history. He moves into a deadlock with Panatta and passes Fabio Fognini.
Sinner heads to Paris for this week’s Paris Masters where he’ll face either JJ Wolf or Mackenzie McDonald in second-round action.
