Jessica Pegula is the fifth player to qualify for this year’s WTA Finals in Cancun.
The American, who reached the final over the weekend in Tokyo, locked up qualification for the second consecutive season, and will join Aryna Sabalenka, Iga Swiatek, Coco Gauff and Elena Rybakina in the eight player field.
Marketa Vondrousova, Karolina Muchova and Ons Jabeur are the next three in line to qualify.
2023 will mark Jessica Pegula’s second consecutive WTA Finals appearance in both singles and doubles, and she has reached three finals in 2023, winning the WTA 1000 National Bank Open Montreal and finishing as runner-up at WTA 500 events in Doha and the Toray Pan Pacific Open in Tokyo.
29-year-old Pegula, ranked No.4, is 49-16 on the season, and 5-4 against the Top-10.
Storm Hunter and Elise Mertens became the second doubles team to qualify. The Aussie-Belgian duo will join Pegula and Gauff, with six other spots to be claimed in the next three weeks.
