Carlos Alcaraz has opted out of next week’s Swiss Indoors Basel, due to lingering injuries to his foot and back.

“Unfortunately I will not be able to play in Basel this year!” Alcaraz posted on X, formerly known as Twitter. “I have a problem with the plantar fascia in my left foot and muscle fatigue in my lower back which needs treatment so I can play the rest of the season. I hope to see you all soon!
Alcaraz has endured a heavy workload in 2023, going 63-9 in his 72 matches, which includes six title runs and a title at Wimbledon.
The 20-year-old hopes to play the Paris Masters, which commences on October 30, and the Nitto ATP Finals, which begin on November 12. Second-ranked Alcaraz is currently 500 points behind Djokovic in the Race to Turin standings, which are effectively the year-end ranking table.
