Caroline Garcia may not have the chance to protect her lead in the Race to Singapore standings next week. That’s because tennis’ hottest player has been denied a wild card by the Kremlin Cup.
Reportedly the last-second request could not be filled because the tournament already had plans for their wild cards. Garcia's agent Sam Duvall tweeted that the issue is more about the WTA reserving two wild cards for exempt player, which will likely go unused in Moscow.
Garcia may request a wild card from the BNP Paribas Luxembourg Open. If she does not play, Johanna Konta can pass her in the Race to Singapore standings by reaching the final at Moscow. Garcia’s lead is 185 points.
