The six-player event is set for December 28-30th.
Former world No. 1 Djokovic pulled the plug on his 2017 season to rest and rehab a right elbow injury that forced him to retire from the Wimbledon quarterfinals. Djokovic has been training and plans to continue his partnership with coach Andre Agassi in 2018.
"The line-up is very strong as always and it will be the perfect way to make my comeback and begin the season," Djokovic told the tournament website. "Abu Dhabi is an amazing place and this is going to be a great event for all of the fans."
Three-time Grand Slam champion Wawrinka will return from knee surgery, joining a field that features world No. 1 Rafael Nadal, Dominic Thiem, Pablo Carreno Busta and Milos Raonic.
The Roland Garros runner-up to Nadal cut short his season to undergo knee surgery following his opening-round Wimbledon loss to Daniil Medvedev.
“It is always a pleasure to kick the season off at the beautiful event in Abu Dhabi," Wawrinka said in a statement. "The fans are amazing there and the draw is as strong as always with a lot of great players.
"My recovery is going well and I can’t wait to be back on court. I’m working hard together with my team and looking forward to being back.”
