“I am sorry that I will not be able to compete in Vienna and Paris but I really think it’s best for me to be ready and healthy for the January tournaments and the Australian Open which is one of my favorite tournaments.

The 32-year-old Czech finishes the season with a 35-18 record. He reached five semifinals and was the runner-up at Lyon.

Berdych went 3-5 against the Top 10, including a win over Novak Djokovic in the Wimbledon quarterfinals when the Serb had to retire in the second set.

Berdych went 9-4 at the majors this season but failed to make the second week everywhere but Wimbledon.

Berdych joins a growing group of other player that have cut their seasons short. Novak Djokovic, Andy Murray, Stan Wawrinka, Milos Raonic, Nick Kyrgios and Kei Nishikori have all pulled the plug on their seasons already.
