Serena Williams earned her spot in the finals at Singapore on Saturday, taking down Caroline Wozniacki in three tight sets to keep alive her bid to become the first player since 1992 to win three consecutive WTA Finals titles.

But the 18-time Grand Slam champion had to struggle through a slow start before flipping the switch and working her way past Wozniacki. She was struggling in the opener, down 5-2, when she decided to take out her frustrations on her poor little Wilson racquet.

Was it the smash that helped turn Williams fortunes around? We’ll never know. All we can know is that this smash, carried out in three equal and vicious parts, was epic. Here’s what Williams had to say about it:

"I don't know how many times I hit it, but boy, that racquet will never do my wrong again, I tell you," Serena said, according to Courtney Nguyen of SI’s Beyond the Baseline. "It was definitely legendary. I kind of lost my cool a little bit."

Serena may have felt good about the racquet smash, but as far as taking out her bestie Wozniacki in the semifinals, she wasn’t too thrilled about that:

"I didn't feel great about it, to be honest," Serena told reporters, according to Nguyen. "She's like my little baby sister from a different mother and father and different country."
