With two weeks of tennis left to play before London qualification is made official, things are heating up to a boil on the ATP Tour.
Vienna: Murray Downs Ferrer to Strengthen London Bid
Last week in Moscow, Vienna and Stockholm significant strides were made by Marin Cilic (who officially qualified and won the Moscow title), Tomas Berdych (who further solidified his hold on the 7th spot), and Andy Murray (who leapfrogged David Ferrer and Milos Raonic to slide into the 8th spot).
Next week’s 500-level events in Basel and Valencia should heat things up even further, as Murray and Ferrer are slated for another showdown in the Valencia semis while Berdych is perched as the second seed in the lower half of the draw there.
Stockholm: Birdman Takes Flight, Soars over Dimitrov for 10th Career Title
Grigor Dimitrov, who fell in the Stockholm final to Berdych, is still in the running and could meet Roger Federer in the Basel quarterfinals, while Milos Raonic, who fell from 8th to 10th after losing his opening-round match to Ricardis Berankis in Moscow, is the fourth seed in Rafael Nadal’s half of the draw in Basel.
Though Raonic had a disappointing week in Moscow, he stands to gain a lot with a good performance in Basel, as he currently has a zero-pointer on his record, and thus all his points gained will add to his total.
