Breaking down the WTA Finals Qualification Scenarios


Many of you might be a bit confused as to who might qualify for the semis in the WTA Finals' white group after Friday’s play is complete. It’s certainly very tricky, because as of now, nobody is guaranteed a slot just as nobody has been eliminated. What that means is that all four players have EVERYTHING to play for.

Rather than trying to figure out the chaos by yourself, we recommend using this handy little cheat sheet that SI’s Courtney Nguyen tweeted out from Singapore earlier today.


Things are a lot simpler in the red group, as Simona Halep has already qualified, and whether or not Serena Williams or Ana Ivanovic qualifies depends on how Ivanovic does against Halep on Friday.

Here’s the deal: If Ivanovic wins in straight sets she qualifies. If Ivanovic doesn’t win in straight sets, Williams is in.
