Berdych-Lendl Pairing a No-Go

The rumors that Tomas Berdych might partner with Ivan Lendl for 2015 came to a thudding halt on Tuesday, as the world No. 7 revealed to his Twitter following that he had met with Lendl and they didn’t come to an agreement.

Berdych, who expressed interest in working with Lendl at the US Open and again during the Asian swing this autumn, told reporters that he had arranged a meeting with Lendl after Shanghai. But per Berdych's Twitter account, the man that guided Andy Murray to two Grand Slams and an Olympic Gold Medal told Berdych he was too busy to take on another coaching gig.

The 29-year-old reached the quarterfinals in three of four Grand Slams in 2014, but was knocked out by a lower ranked player in each. In September, after falling to Marin Cilic at the US Open, Berdych seemed confident that he would one day bring Ivan Lendl on board to his team. “Well, I think it's something which I was thinking about definitely. I think just needs probably the right time and timing to make it happen. Let's see. I hope the time is going to come up. Fingers crossed,” he said at the time.
