By Nick Georgandis

If some published reports are to be believed, top 10 WTA star Caroline Wozniacki has been dumped by long-time boyfriend and pro golfer Rory McIlroy because she posted an embarrassing picture of him on Twitter.

Just for clarification, neither Wozniacki nor McIlroy is in junior high school.

According to UK's Sunday Independent, the catalyst for the split was a photo Wozniacki posted on Twitter last month showing a shirtless McIlroy at close range with his mouth wide open, wearing glasses and appearing fast asleep.

The accompanying text read "Jetlag? Lol!!"

On Monday, Wozniacki told Danish newspaper Ekstra Bladet that "All is well, and then there's not much more to say about it. I'm so tired of the rumors. They occur every time Rory and I are apart a few days or do not write on Twitter. It is so annoying that the media and the so-called sources constantly spread the rumors. They write just what they want."

A source told the Irish Independent that the posting of the photo was "one of the final straws for the number-one golfer."

That quote is a bit inaccurate. The 24-year-old McIlroy hasn't been No. 1 in golf since 2012, having a fairly lousy 2013 by his standards and finishing the year sixth in the Official World Golf Rankings. After leading the PGA Tour in money earned in 2012, he sunk to 41st in 2013.

It's been hard to get official word from the McIlroy camp as he's only recently signed with PR firm Communications Clinic after ending his long relationship (professionally this time) with Horizon Sports Management.

Neither Wozniacki nor McIlroy's official websites mention anything about the other person.

The pair began dating in 2011 when Wozniacki was ranked No. 1 in the world. She has not won as much since then, and but is still a fixture at the tail end of the Top 10.
