Second Serve - A Tennis Now Blog

Second Serve

Benoit Paire takes the word “drop shot” to new meaning on this gorgeously feathered volley during his second-round match at the Paris Masters on Tuesday. Drop, as in, jaws dropping all over Paris. Watch as the Frenchman slides in to get his racquet underneath the ball, carving it gently, with a loose arm, and nearly getting hit in the jaw as his volley alights and heads to the other side of the net. Seriously, Paire volleys this ball so gently it makes us wonder if he could do the same with a raw egg.

The ball lands and retracts, kicking off the hard court and toppling back into the net where Simon can only watch it and shrug.

The second replay on this clip (see above) does a great job of highlighting the epic quality of this volley. Paire displays some of the finest touch and softest hands possible on this point. It’s worthy of a frame and the spot in the Le Louvre, don’t you think?

Note: This shot was pretty amazing as well from Paire:

Second note: Paire is now in the third set with Simon and he’s coming back to earth. He dropped the third set, 6-1, and falls to 3-4 lifetime versus his compatriot.
