Andy Murray will not be joining Team Great Britain at this year’s Davis Cup Finals.
The British legend, who played the hero when his side won the Davis Cup in 2015, has picked up a shoulder injury.
“I’ve picked up a minor shoulder injury which means I won’t be able to take part in the Davis Cup,” Murray said in a statement. “I’m gutted not to be a part of the squad but my focus is now on rehab and getting ready for the new season.”
Murray guided the Brits to their first Davis Cup triumph since 1936 in 2015, going 8-0 in singles and 3-0 in doubles. By doing so, Murray became only the third player, after John McEnroe and Mats Wilander, to win the maximum eight singles matches in a Davis Cup season.
Great Britain is set to square off with Serbia on Thursday November 23rd. Other ties in the knockout round include Canada vs. Finland, Czechia vs. Australia and Italy vs. the Netherlands.
