Madison Keys made "baby steps" posting her first Top 10 finish this season, says Chris Evert.

Former world No. 1 players Evert and Martina Navratilova believe the world No. 8 is on the verge of a major breakthrough.

Talking tennis over a couple of Singapore slings to CNN's Open Court, the Hall of Famers concur that Keys can win a Grand Slam title in 2017.

"(Keys) didn't come on really strong like a Genie Bouchard or a Muguruza, that one big Slam," Evert, who formerly worked with Keys at the Chris Evert Academy, says at the three-minute mark of the video above. "She hasn't been mentally ready. I think the mental and emotional side is catching up with the physical side.

"So she has a very good chance next year of winning a Grand Slam."

"Oh, absolutely, that would be a good bet, actually," agrees Navratilova.

Evert and Navratilova each won 18 Grand Slam singles titles and both say 22-time Grand Slam champion is a good bet to win Wimbledon 2017.

"I think she definitely has one more if not two more Grand Slams left in her," Evert says of Serena. "Especially Wimbledon where the surface seems to suit her power and her movement. So I would venture a bet that she's going to win one more major."

"If Serena's healthy it's almost impossible for someone to beat her on the grass," Navratilova said. "So that's her best chance at it. But you never know. I think she'll be motivated. She definitely wants that record. If anyone can do it, obviously Serena Williams can."
