Second Serve

Jo-Wilfried Tsonga and Tomas Berdych are still alive in the race to London. Tsonga rallied for a dramatic victory over Kei Nishikori on Thursday, battling back from a bagel-set down and then saving two match points in the third set with Nishikori serving at 5-3.

Much to the delight of the French faithful, Tsonga would later take the match in a tiebreaker, 0-6, 6-3, 7-6(3).

The Frenchman can still qualify for London but he’ll need to take the title in Bercy to do it.

Tomas Berdych defeated Gilles Simon, 6-4, 6-3 to also keep his hopes alive. Berdych is closer to passing Dominic Theim for the eighth and final London spot. The Czech can qualify if he reaches the semis, provided that Tsonga doesn’t win the title.

Earlier on Thursday, Marin Cilic assured his qualification with a victory over David Goffin.

Tsonga faces No.4-seeded Milos Raonic in the quarterfinals, while Berdych has the unenviable task of trying to snap Andy Murray’s 17-match winning streak.
