The IPTL is creating quite stir in India. The organizers of the fledgling tennis league announced that tickets for Roger Federer’s appearances in Delhi on December 6 through December 8 sold out in 20 minutes.
Federer, who will be joined by Pete Sampras, Gael Monfils, Ana Ivanovic and several others on the Indian Aces squad, will lead his team against each of the league’s other three teams during the three days in Delhi.
"This is probably among the first times we've witnessed such huge demand for tennis in India,” said Mahesh Bhupathi, the league’s founder, according to One India News. “The exceptional response shows the kind of excitement there is about the IPTL. We're thrilled with the response shown by sports fans in India and are confident that it will be a show they will enjoy."
The IPTL boasts four star-studded teams which feature luminaries from tennis present as well as past, such as Novak Djokovic, Andy Murray, Andre Agassi, Pete Sampras, Ana Ivanovic, Serena Williams, Nick Kyrgios, Maria Sharapova, Eugenie Bouchard, and many more.
The league will open its season on November 28th in Manila.
