Former US Open quarterfinalist and current world No. 165 Melanie Oudin will undergo heart surgery on Thursday after doctors diagnosed her with a form of arrhythmia.

According to Howard Fendrich of the AP, Oudin had been experiencing accelerated heartbeat, usually during or right after matches, and was convinced that the problem was anxiety.
According to the report Oudin expects to return to the court within a few weeks, although she will need time to recover from another procedure to remove a growth from her eye.
The 23-year-old Georgia native last competed in late October at the Macon Challenger, losing in the second round.
