Romania's Simona Halep had the breakout season on the WTA tour in 2013, but whatever success she cultivated wasn't enough to keep her from parting ways with coach Adrian Marcu late last week.
Halep went 53-17 and won six tournaments last year, the first six of her career. At age 22, she earned $1.222 million in prize money, more than doubling her previous career earnings.
She also rose 36 spots in the rankings over the season, from 47th at the end of 2012 to 11th at the end of the 2013 campaign. Only Serena Williams won more titles than Halep in 2013, and only Williams and Agnieszka Radawnska won more matches.
No word from Halep as yet on who her next coach will be.
