Ons Jabeur has been blazing a trail on the WTA for the last two seasons, and the Tunisian continues to do so this week in Madrid, where she became the first African player to ever reach a WTA 1000 final by defeating Ekaterina Alexandrova, 6-2, 6-3.
She will face American Jessica Pegula for the title.
27-year-old Jabeur improves to 19-7 on the season and will bid for her second career title.
After taking out Simona Halep to reach the semifinals on Wednesday, Jabeur talked about not placing a limitation on her dreams.
“I think maturity-wise, I think I evolved in that part, and that's what makes me the player I am today. I'm still really looking forward to see what I can bring,” she said. “I think this tournament is teaching me how to really dig deep, because I feel playing Simona and winning against Simona today was a mandatory part that I had to go through to achieve the goals that I told you about. And why not be Top-5 and win more titles?
Jabeur is currently ranked tenth in the WTA rankings, but could rise to No.7 by winning the title.
