Nike unveiled the latest collaboration between designer Virgil Abloh and Williams.
The black-and-white, printed cape-jacket is emblazoned with the words “Mother, Champion, Queen, Goddess” in French. It covers a printed black-and-white skirt and matching top.
A year ago, French Tennis Federation president president Bernard Giudicelli claimed Williams’ cat suit went “too far” and would not be permitted in 2019.
“I think we sometimes went too far," Giudicelli said in an interview last August. "The combination of Serena this year, for example, it will no longer be accepted. You have to respect the game and the place.”
Asked her reaction to those comments, sister Venus Williams said people should focus on the bigger picture.
"Serena has done so much for tennis, so much for tennis, so much for people in the world," Venus Williams said. "I think that's the only focus that we can focus on."
The former world No. 1, designer Abloh and Nike have answered with this bold creation.
