Nicole Gibbs will undergo surgery for salivary gland cancer on Friday.
The 26-year-old American said her surgeon reports "surgery alone" will be sufficient treatment and she hopes to return for next month's Wimbledon qualifying.

Gibbs, who will miss Roland Garros, announced the surgery on twitter. The world No. 117 said her dentist detected a growth on the roof of her mouth that turned out to be cancerous.
"Fortunately, this form of cancer has a great prognosis and my surgeon is confident that surgery alone will be sufficient treatment," Gibbs said on Twitter. "He even okayed me to play an extra couple of tournaments these past few weeks which served as a nice distraction."
