Angelique Kerber Pulls out of Madrid with Ankle Injury

Fourth-seeded Angelique Kerber has announced her withdrawal from the Madrid Open due to an ankle injury suffered in practice on Tuesday.

Due to an ankle injury, @AngeliqueKerber has withdrawn from the @MutuaMadridOpen.

The German was slated to face Croatia’s Petra Martic on Tuesday.

Martic takes the walkover and will face either Donna Vekic or Kristyna Pliskova in the round of 16.

Kerber hopes to play next week at Rome.

Kerber out of Madrid with an ankle injury. On her clay-court preparations, she said: ‘I think it’s the worst I ever had. I was really looking forward to this year. Hopefully I can be ready for the next big ones. I hope there are big chances to play in Rome.’
