Djokovic: Serena Best Female Athlete Ever

Novak Djokovic draws inspiration from fellow former world No. 1 Serena Williams.

The 2016 Roland Garros champion calls Williams "the greatest female athlete of all time" and a major source of inspiration as he aims to regain his place at the top of the game.

"It’s not like she never won a slam and then now she wants to come back because she has something to achieve from that perspective,” Djokovic told the media after his Roland Garros second-round win. “After all she has achieved in sport to see her back and putting hours on the court and work and again and again, it’s impressive. It’s inspiring. It really is."

Djokovic, who famously danced with Williams after both won Wimbledon titles, bonded with Serena's daughter, Alexis Olympia Ohanian at Roland Garros.

The 12-time Grand Slam champion says Serena is more than the GOAT, she is the "greatest female athlete of all time."

“She’s the greatest female athlete of all time, probably, and she keeps on coming back and inspiring everyone," Djokovic said. “She uses tennis as a platform to do good things and that’s why she’s back. You can see how much she loves it.

“I love Serena. All the superlatives and beautiful words that you can think of she deserves it.”
