The two-time Roland Garros semifinalist suffered a calf injury while preparing for her first match at the Grand Prix De Sar la Princesse in Rabat, and may need to miss more time as a result.
"I ran for a drop shot and at my first step, my right calf got torn," Bacsinszky posted on social media. "I felt a very sharp pain, and since then I'm unable to put weight on it and to walk normally."
The Swiss is trying to get back into form after missing the last half of the 2017 season due to right hand surgery. She fell in three sets to Jelena Ostapenko at Roland Garros last season, marking the second time in three years that she has made the last four in Paris.
She has dropped all four matches she has contested in 2018.
Russia’s Daria Kasatkina also suffered a lower body injury this week in Prague. The Russian took an injury timeout and was severely hobbled to an acute left thigh injury. It’s an issue that she has been dealing with for most of April.
Both Kasatkina and Bacsinszky are on the entry list for Madrid next week, but it is not known if either player will make the main draw.
