Most people feel that Roger Federer got an excellent draw at Roland Garros, but he’s slated to face a player who has made things very difficult for him on clay in their last two meetings on the surface—Gael Monfils.

Monfils has won his last five sets against Federer on the surface, but the Frenchman had to pull out of Rome with a knee injury, so his health at Roland Garros—as usual—could be an issue.
Federer is slated to face a qualifier in the first round, followed by either Marcel Granollers or a qualifier in the second round. The 17-time major champion will face nobody higher-ranked than 25th-seeded Ivo Karlovic until the round of 16.
Monfils will open with French wild card Edouard Roger-Vasselin in the first round and could face Uruguay’s Pablo Cuevas in the third round.
If the seeds hold, Federer would face Stan Wawrinka in the quarterfinals and either Tomas Berdych or Kei Nishikori in the semis.
Nishikori has a tricky draw. He’ll open with Paul-Henri Mathieu but could face a pair or lethal lefties in Thomaz Bellucci and Fernando Verdasco in the second and third rounds.
