Kyrgios' Mother Hopes Son Acts More Like Federer

Nick Kyrgios gave his mom an early Mother's Day present with a surprise three-set win over Roger Federer in Madrid. But though thrilled with her son's success, even she hopes he will learn to behave a bit better on court.

ATP: Kyrgios Defeats Federer in Three Set Thriller

"We're still pinching ourselves. It still feels a bit unreal he's playing with the big fellas and matching it," Nill Kyrgios said speaking to The Age. "He feels a bit sorry for Roger, I'm pretty sure. He'd be proud of beating him but on the other hand he probably feels devastated someone had to lose."

The rising 20-year-old Aussie star is known for his exciting play and often brash behavior. That was the case Wednesday when Kyrgios was slapped with a code violation after berating a line umpire.

Kyrgios' mom says her son has always been a bit testy but it's something he'll have to learn to control as he gets older.

"Nick loves causing havoc that's all I have to say, he likes to stir the pot," she said. The thing is he's got a lot to learn on how to control that. The linespeople may get it wrong, everybody makes a mistake. I don't mind him pointing it out and saying that was wrong, you should have watched the ball better, but don't keep carrying on about it."

She hopes he'll learn from Federer who Kyrgios idolized when growing up.

"Federer was it (for him) mainly because of his backhand, but also the fact he doesn't lose his temper much and goes about his business."

Nill famously told her son that Rafael Nadal would be too good for him before their match at Wimbledon last year. That motivated her son to go on and defeat Nadal for his first ever huge win.

Kyrgios' mother does plan to attend the French Open later this month to watch her son play.
