Second Serve

Tennis’s resident energizer bunny—or pit bull, take your pick—notched a massive milestone on Day 3 of the French Open when he notched a comfortable 6-1, 6-3, 6-1 win over Lukas Lacko to reach the second round.

Ferrer became just the second active ATP player to hit the 300-win mark on clay, joining Rafael Nadal in that rarefied air.

Ferrer also notched a few other milestones with the win:

As usual, the humble Spaniard was not quick to toot his own horn.

“Well, is not important. It's just a number,” he said. “But of course, it's a lot of matches playing in clay court, and nothing else proud for that point.”

When asked if he thought he was playing as good as he ever had, the 33-year-old curtly replied “No, no. I think in 2012 it was my best year.”

The former French Open finalist will move on to face fellow Spaniard Daniel Gimeno Traver in the second round.
