Former world No. 2 Vera Zvonareva tells Sport Express' Vladas Lasitskas that she will not only miss Roland Garros, but that she doesn't know when she will return to the WTA. Zvonareva has been sidelined since March with a recurrence of the shoulder injury which saw her miss almost 18 months following the London Olympics in 2012.
Zvonareva underwent surgery on her injured shoulder in February of 2013, and returned to the tour in Shenzhen in January. The Russian has featured in four events this year, with her last match coming at the BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells. There, she lost in the opening round to China's Peng Shuai in three sets.
She already used her protected ranking to enter the Australian Open, where she lost in the first round to Australian Casey Dellacqua. Allowed to use a protected ranking to enter only one Grand Slam event, Zvonareva would have had to rely on the generosity of tournament organizers for a wild card into Roland Garros. Her current ranking is No. 569.
She says that she has yet to resume practicing and can't say when her next event will be.
