Rankings Report: Ginepri, Townsend Secure French Open Berths

Four years ago, Robby Ginepri was the last American man standing at Roland Garros as he matched his career-best result and made the fourth round.

Courtesy of a win in the Tallahassee Challenger last weekend, Ginepri will find himself on the terre battue and in the main draw once again. Ginepri, whose ranking rose from No. 442 to No. 280 on the back of his title, is by far the biggest and most notable mover in the men's rankings this week. For those of you counting, that's a rise of 162 places. Ginepri will return to the main draw of a Grand Slam for the first time since the US Open in 2012.

The two other title-winners on the ATP Tour, Carlos Berlocq and Martin Klizan, also enjoyed bumps in their rankings to go along with their new hardware. A winner in Oeiras, Portugal over Tomas Berdych, Berlocq rose 11 spots in the rankings, from No. 62 to No. 51. Klizan, who qualifed and rode his good form all the way to the title in Munich, rose 49 spots in the rankings to put himself firmly back in the top 100 at No. 62.

On the women's side, the top 20 remained static with just one notable exception. Oeiras champion Carla Suarez Navarro, now No. 14, swapped placed with Caroline Wozniacki, now No. 15, to match her career high. On the other side of the top 100, Romanian Irina-Camelia Begu, who has struggled with consistency on the WTA since winning the Newcomer of the Year award in 2011, made her return to the top 100 on the back of a semifinal showing in Portugal. Begu rose 20 spots this week from No. 117 to No. 97.

American teenager Taylor Townsend, the women's winner of the USTA French Open wildcard, picked up her second $50,000 ITF title in as many weeks with a win over Yulia Putintseva in Indian Harbour Beach. She rose from No. 336 to No. 256 a week earlier, and with this weekend's win, Townsend moved up another 51 spots to a career-high No. 205.
