A new documentary currently in development proves that tennis is definitely a sport for all ages.
"Gold Balls" focuses on several players ranging in age from 80 to 95 as they compete in USTA senior events. The goal for each is to win a coveted national championship where they win a gold ball charm, hence the film's title.
"For players aged 80 and over, this is the world of Ultra Senior tennis," says the film's website. "Where octogenarians train like young pros, travel like itinerant rock bands, and actually look forward to getting older, if only every five years, when they “age up” into the next USTA age category and have relative youth on their side."
Along with interviews with each player, the film also explores the topics of health, aging and society's interaction with elders.
