Second Serve - A Tennis Now Blog

Second Serve

By Nick Georgandis

What do a pair of the top golfers in the world talk about when they are paired together for the first round of the most lucrative tournament on the PGA Tour?

Tennis, of course.

Playing in the most-watched trio at Thursday's The PLAYERS Championship in Florida, former No. 1 Rory McIlroy and former No. 2 Steve Stricker shot the breeze by talking about the sport that McIlroy's girlfriend is so famous for.

"We were talking about his girlfriend Caroline (Wozniacki)," Stricker said after firing a 5-under 67 (McIlroy was even better at 6-under on the day). "I was asking him a bunch of questions because my daughter and wife are into tennis. I think we're going to go to the US Open this fall."

A fun topic considering the pair were matched with the hottest golfer on the planet - Australia's Adam Scott - who last was seen winning the Masters Tournament in April.

Stricker's wife, Nicki, is frequently his caddie as well. She is the son of former PGA pro Dennis Tiziani and the brother of another former pro, Mario Tiziani.

Daughter Bobbi, a high school freshman in Waunakee, Wisconsin, is already on the varsity of her squad and said in an interview last fall that she only considers the sport of her dad and grandfather a "hobby".
