It took Jimmy Connors almost 40 years to reveal to the world that he was the father of a baby that Chris Evert decided not to have in 1974, in a time when the two were engaged to be married and on top of the tennis world.
 

But it took Evert just 48 hours to strike back.
 

“In his book, Jimmy Connors has written about a time in our relationship that was very personal and emotionally painful,” Evert said in a statement. “I am extremely disappointed that he used the book to misrepresent a private matter that took place 40 years ago and made it public without my knowledge.”
 

“I hope that everyone can understand that I have no further comment.”
 

Now 60, Connors married former Playboy model Patti McGuire in 1979. His book also details affairs he had that nearly cost him his marriage. The couple now have two children.
 

Evert has been married three times, her first coincidentally also beginning in 1979. She has three children.
