Vera Zvonareva was swinging in the rain in Monterrey.
Zvonareva didn't let the damp court deter her from giving her forehand a workout.
Adjacent practice courts were empty, but Zvonareva continued to pound away.
The former world No. 2 is now ranked No. 155 after missing the entire 2013 season and much of 2014 recovering from shoulder surgery.
Zvonareva has been restoring the bounce to her step and drive to her game. She's reached the quarterfinals in three of her last four tournaments.
The 30-year-old Russian plays sixth-seeded Alison Riske in her Monterrey opener later today. Zvonareva is partnering Swiss Timea Bacsinszky in the doubles draw. Bacsinszky beat Caroline Garcia to win the Acapulco title over the weekend, raising her record to 13-2 on the season. She partnered Zvonareva to the Shenzhen doubles semifinals in January.
