Video: Halep Knocks Two-Handed Backhand Winner on the Full Sprint
Simona Halep
has now reached the semifinals of the BNP Paribas Open in back-to-back years, and despite the fact that she’s had to struggle to three-set victories in three of her first four matches at Indian Wells, she says she’s feeling better on court than she was this time last year.
More Halep Wizardry:
Halep Visits Next Town, Commutes Back to Win Point
“I feel the game and I feel every shot I hit, so that's why I tell you that I am feeling much you know, I'm feeling better because, you know, I dominate the matches till the end,” said Halep, after her victory over
Carla Suarez Navarro
booked her a semifinal match with
Serena Williams
on Wednesday. “So that is the most important for me, just to find my style and to play my game every match.”
If this dazzling winner, struck by Halep on the full sprint after she was stretched out wide on the forehand side by Suarez Navarro is any indication, the Romanian isn’t kidding. Check out the court coverage by Halep, as she changes directions and flies from the far corner to well inside the baseline to smack that winner.
“Last year I had a good tournament, and this year I can say it was better than last year,” she said. “I feel much more now the ball and the game. I'm more confident, and, you know, I think I have my chance in the semifinals. “I will go to fight and to believe that I can win the match.”
