Ever wonder why some pundits are so high on Sloane Stephens? Sometimes, given her lack of a WTA final and her proclivity for flat-lining emotionally, it makes sense to wonder. But at other times, like when she’s pulling off wizardry like this stick save off of an absolute rocket of the racket of Serena Williams, it’s easy to see: Sloane’s got talent to burn.

Could it be that with Nick Saviano now guiding her, Sloane’s little mini-run at Indian Wells will mark the beginning of an uptick for the 21-year-old American? Tough to say. Really, really tough to say, in fact. The big question, in our opinion, is not about Sloane’s talent, but what’s in Stephen’s heart and between her ears. That said, there’s little doubt that Stephens has the athleticism and the power to be a contender for titles on the tour.
