Nicole Vaidisova took a major step forward on the comeback trail qualifying for the main draw in Monterrey today.
The former world No. 7 defeated Australian Arina Rodionova, 6-3, 6-2, in a 49-minute final round of qualifying to advance to her first WTA main draw since 2010.
A familiar face will be awaiting her in today's opener.
Vaidisova, who took a wild card into qualifying, will face top-seeded Ana Ivanovic.
It will be Vaidisova's first WTA main-draw match since she lost to third-seeded Kaia Kanepi in the 2010 Memphis round of 16.
The reigning Monterrey champion has won three of four meetings with Vaidisova, including a gripping 4-6, 6-2, 7-5 triumph in the 2007 Wimbledon quarterfinals.
This will be their first meeting since the 2008 Dubai round of 16 where Ivanovic permitted just four games in a routine sweep.
