Second Serve

During Grigor Dimitrov’s 7-6(2), 3-6, 7-6(4) victory over Nick Kyrgios on Sunday at Indian Wells, the rising Aussie was bit by the injury bug again. After tumbling during a point that saw him convert a break and take a 5-4 lead over Dimitrov in the final set, Kyrgios came up hobbled. He eventually waved the trainer off and got on with the rest of the match, losing in the deciding-set tiebreaker with limited mobility in his right ankle/foot area.

“I thought the best idea was to just carry on,” said Kyrgios of the injury and match's conclusion on Sunday. “Not think about it just try to go out there and serve.”

Today, Kyrgios announced that he’d suffered damaged ligaments due to the tumble, and will miss about a month.

Having just recovered from an injured back which forced him out of Australia’s Davis Cup tie, Kyrgios is proving to be rather injury prone. He’s only got seven matches under his belt in 2015, and is off the tour again.
