INDIAN WELLS—Novak Djokovic looks forward to an Indian Wells rematch with Nick Kyrgios.
The world No. 1 is on third-round collision course with Kyrgios, who knocked off three Top 10 opponents—Rafael Nadal, John Isner and Alexander Zverev as well as three-time Grand Slam champion Stan Wawrinka—to capture the Acapulco title last week.
Djokovic: Flawed ATP Must Change
“I followed Nick’s result in Acapulco, amazing result," Djokovic said. "Amazing wins against Nadal, Zverev and current top players. Impressive, but as Nadal was saying we’ve always been aware of his qualities and his talent.
"He has big weapons in his game, serve, obviously one of the best serves in the game on tour. Forehand, and can play well on different surfaces, it’s just whether he is consistent or not so that’s what we are going to see.”
Kyrgios has swept all four sets he's played vs. Djokovic, thumping 25 aces to topple Djokovic at the 2017 Acapulco event in their maiden meeting. Kyrgios did not face a break point disarming Djokovic, 6-4, 7-6 (3), to snap the Serbian's 19-match Indian Wells winning streak with conviction two years ago.
The 15-time Grand Slam champion is excited for a rematch.
“I lost to him both times that I played against him," Djokovic said. "If I get a chance to play against him sure I’ll look forward to that because you know, he’s in form. On the other hand I have started this season very well. I hope I can restart here where I stopped in Australia.”
