MIAMI—Nick Kyrgios swept Dusan Lajovic, 6-3, 6-1, and got into a verbal altercation with a fan in the process.
Kyrgios engaged in an ongoing verbal battle with a fan, who was taunting him.
Afterward, the explosive Aussie said the fan called him "a dick" which escalated the issue.
"At the change of ends he literally just said 'you’re a dick'," Kyrgios told the media after his victory. "And I was like I don’t quite understand the context of it. You’re sitting here you paid good money to watch me on a Sunday night so you obviously don’t have anything else to do and then he’s like you’re a dick...
"And then he was like come here and say it and I was like no because I have to play and then I don’t know it just kept going."
Other fans cheered when the unruly fan was ejected.
"I had a bit of fun with it," Kyrgios said. "I knew I was gonna get him kicked out and I love it. I love every single bit of it. I think the crowd loved it. It was a lot of fun. I thought they saw good tennis as well...
"I think tennis needs stuff like this to be honest It’s fun. I thought the crowd loved this match I had a lot of fun. I mean I don’t mind. If anything he got me going a little more. I played really well tonight Im really happy with the way I played."
