Sloane: Serena is My Gauge

Serena Williams is both an inspiration and personal gauge for Sloane Stephens.

In the aftermath of her 6-4, 6-3 loss to Daria Kasatkina at Indian Wells on Monday, Stephens initially said she will "definitely not" be playing at age 36 like Serena and Roger Federer.

Upon further reflection, the US Open champion said if Serena wins a few more Grand Slams in her comeback from giving birth, then it will inspire Stephens herself to pursue tennis longevity.

"Well, we'll see. I mean, Serena had a baby, and eventually I want to have a baby as well," Stephens said. "So if she comes back and wins a couple more slams, maybe I will think about it. But I'm kind of just gauging it on how well she does and then we'll see."
