After falling to Thanasi Kokkinakis in Miami, Roger Federer has announced that he will not play the clay-court season in 2018.
The Swiss also skipped the clay season in 2017, before winning his 8th Wimbledon title later that summer. Though he will drop to No.2 in the rankings after Miami, Federer could conceivably come back to No.1 during the clay season, as Rafael Nadal will hold a slim lead and be defending champion’s points at Monte-Carlo, Barcelona, Madrid and Roland Garros.
