Novak Djokovic and Serena Williams have been nominated for the 2016 Laureus World Sportsman and Sportswoman of the Year award.

Djokovic has already won the award twice, including last year. The 2012 and 2015 winner joins Usain Bolt, Stephen Curry, Lewis Hamilton, Lionel Messi and Jordan Spieth as nominees for the award.
In 2015, Djokovic won three Grand Slams, 11 titles and a record six ATP World Tour Masters 1000 events. He ended the year with an 82-6 record.
Other ATP players to have won the award are Roger Federer (2005, 2006, 2007, 2008) and Rafael Nadal (2011).
Williams, one of three WTA players to have won the award in the past (also Jennifer Capriati (2002) and Justine Henin (2008) has won the award twice and could become the first woman to win it three times. Williams and pole vaulter Yelena Isinbayeva are the only two women ever to win the award twice.
In 2015, Williams won the first three majors of the season, finished No. 1 in the world for a fifth time and went 53-3 for the season.
The other nominees for Sportswoman of the Year include Genzebe Dibaba, Anna Fenninger, Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, Katie Ledecky, and La.
